I decided with so many SNS competing for my attention, that I would dedicate each day to one site, in rotation, so that hopefully I could make real connections and get to know how things work but still have time to write my novel, blog and teach etc. Today was my first proper day on Threads, and the welcome I got from other writers was amazing. Everyone was so nice. I was pleasantly surprised.

Today, in school, a student surprised me too. Most of them want to know where I’m from initially and look at my blue eyes, touch my blond hair, but I quickly become normal and unexciting. Today, however, one middle school boy went beyond the surface curiosity and asked me what I missed most about home. I told him, apart from family and friends, I missed thrift stores (or charity shops as we say in the UK). Thrift stores are very rare in South Korea. There is a popular site called Karrot Market though where people sell and buy online. We use it, but I miss a good rummage through the racks for a cheap blouse or jacket.

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
