I have completely lost my Scottish accent after 7 years abroad. My Korean colleague was convinced I was from the USA. When we went to San Francisco at the new year, I apparently slipped into a perfect Californian twang, according to my fiance. I seem to unconsciously mimic those around me. I can only hope, when we go back to Scotland, my accent returns.

Yesterday, I was stunned when a very famous children’s author messaged me. He was so kind and full of advice. I felt so inspired and grateful talking to him. Just when I was thinking how wonderful, and useful, the internet is though, an Irishman, who works in Dallas, played the pity card about being a widow and asked me to be his lover, after chatting for literally minutes! I blocked him pronto. I’m not going to be running off to be a Texan oil wife any time soon!

Today was graduation day for the kindergarten kids. It went well. We had rehearsed a lot, so on the whole it went without a hitch. The children all got their awards and bowed and then sang a song by Bruno Mars called The Day My Life Begins. It was bittersweet. The mothers and fathers all…

  • Of Days off and Duolingo

Well my days off have ended and I was back at work today. Luckily there are two free periods on a Thursday so it wasn’t a total shock to the system. I was able to ease back in. Tomorrow is a full day but it’s almost the weekend. I didn’t do the things I’d planned…
