I became a member of a bass group on Facebook yesterday and thought I’d show a picture of my beloved bass, even though it’s just an old freebie ftom a music room in Bucheon. It’s an Ernie Ball Stingray copy but I love it. I got some really positive interactions, but one guy pointed out an obvious grammar mistake I’d made in my post. I wasn’t bothered about being corrected, but others called him a grammar Nazi and soon they were arguing over who was the best bassist. I left quietly, for the night, after waking a pack of rabid dogs!
It does, however, demonstrate the importance of proof reading and editing. I was tired when I wrote the post but, had I gave it another pass I might have noticed my mistake. It’s always worth letting something sit for a while, or checking over it again. First drafts benefit from a break and fresh eyes. Although proof reading and editing is not as fun as the initial writing process, it is absolutely essential.
