I read a Jarvis Cocker interview recently, where he talked about the importance of boredom to the creative process. He had the idea for Pulp when he was bored. It’s true that some of my best ideas come when I’m bored, drifting, daydreaming. Now, with our constant scrolling, he suggested, we are bored in a different way. We are consuming so much there is little space for creativity. I think there is some truth in that, if we don’t manage our use of the internet and social media.

I’ve tried many SNS recently but I’m considering ditching those that are a drain on my time without much benefit. Tik Tok might be first to go, as the men are so pushy. I’ve spoken to one or two authors and watched some writer videos that were inspiring, but mostly I’m getting plagued daily with offers of romance from dubious or desperate men. I’m getting fed up explaining that I am already in a relationship. They often have a similar story about being widowed and I suspect most of them are scams. I really just want to connect with other writers.

Korea has great beauty products but the choice was bewildering. I bought a serum and moisturiser (Biodance) as well as lip balm…

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
