Last night, I went out with some of the teachers, and the director, for a meal at a restaurant in Millakdong, a trendy newer area in Uijeongbu. Shabu-Shabu is a kind of hot pot dish with thinly sliced meat, originating in Japan but popular in South Korea. We had a nice time together, and discussed the upcoming summer event at the academy. One idea was to do a summer fashion show for the kids, which I think would be fun. Teachers have to wear summer fashion too! Tonight my fiancé and I are going out for Dak Galbi after visiting his mother. It’s too hot to cook lately.

This posting is to say I might not be blogging much over the next week or two, although I will try and do a post as usual. It’s report card season and, as every teacher knows, that takes up a lot of time. I have to finish them before the summer vacation, at the end of July. I want to take time over them and think about each child individually, not just copy and paste phrases. Each student is unique. So, I might not get much time for creative writing or blogging, but I will still be writing.

Korea has great beauty products but the choice was bewildering. I bought a serum and moisturiser (Biodance) as well as lip balm…

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
