I read all sorts of books from a variety of genres. I was interested to see that Robert Langdon, the symbologist, is making a comeback in Dan Brown’s new novel Secret of Secrets. I really enjoyed the other books in the series. They are best sellers for a reason. The short chapters keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. While not literary fiction, they are enjoyable escapism. Just the sort of thing one needs on a weekend afternoon, when there’s a thunderstorm outside.

It’s Sunday and I’m feeling that weekend langour I feel so often. Afternoons drift by, while I nap or read. I should go out and do something but it’s still hot and humid. The summer is just not comfortable here in South Korea. I’m waiting eagerly for autumn when we can get out and go fishing and hiking. Even shopping feels like too much of an effort right now. The weather is so extreme here compared to the milder climate of Scotland, my homeland.

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
