I tried a rewrite of my first two chapters recently and generated a whole three lines! I’m disappointed because it’s not much of an output, but pleased because it’s better written than before. I started two chapters further in, at the bit where the story actually begins. My main character makes an accidental discovery when hiking home at dusk. I’ve tried to convey how he reacts, but in as few words as possible.

Hopefully some of the parts I’ve skipped over can be recycled. Not having read the original for two years, a lot of flaws stood out, one of which is I am too wordy, and so this time I tried to write in a more succinct way. I think I just couldn’t get any further because I was overtired. It was 11:30 pm and I would usually be asleep. I decided to look at it with fresh eyes and a big cup of Maxim coffee next morning.

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
