Cooking is something that’s important in most cultures across the world. It’s a thing you can share as a way of making a connection with other people. This month our social theme at school is countries and culture and we are having a cooking day. We have teachers from Ireland, Scotland, South Africa and the United States here at our academy. It’s a great chance to share our different cultures with the students.

I’ve chosen Cranachan to make (a whisky free version obviously). The cooking facilities at the school are very basic so I chose a recipe I could assemble easily with the children. The American teacher is making mac and cheese and there’s Irish potato salad and boerewors too. The children have quite a bit of exposure to Western food in South Korea, but it’s mostly fast food like pizza and burgers. It’s hopefully going to be interesting to see some food from our cultures and learn a bit more about us.

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
