I have a much needed week off for Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and I’m very thankful for the break. I do believe teachers can get burnt out. It’s a demanding job in many ways. Yesterday and today I felt absolutely exhausted, and just rested, read and ate. We watched an episode of Slow Horses. The books the show is based on, by Mick Herron, are in my to-be-read pile. I wanted to go out to a cafe or for a walk but I didn’t have the energy.

Perhaps later in the week I will feel more like doing things. I hope to write and felt a bit of encouragement to do so when my mum suggested I might write in the vacation. Hopefully I’ll shake this feeling of weariness soon. I want to return to the novel I was working on. I can’t decide whether to rewrite what I’ve written or plough on and do more. I know it needs editing but I think it would be satisfying just to get to the end and say I completed something.

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
