Today we went to BongSonSa Buddhist temple not far from Uijeongbu, near Pocheon. It’s surrounded by mountains and pine forest, with an Arboretum and a king’s tomb nearby. It really is in a beautiful location. We wandered round the lake and stopped to admire the different statues as well as some very aged trees. It is such a peaceful place. Today it was full of people, yet there was still a calm feeling. People were praying, resting, taking photos, drinking cooling rice drinks or coffee at the cafe. Everyone was respectful.

We ate lunch together and then sat in a traffic jam for an hour or so, as everyone seemed to have had the same idea as us today! When we got back to Uijeongbu I went to the CU corner store for an ice Americano. I spotted a new chocolate bar right away. A salted caramel Twix. I like to try new chocolate bars so I bought one and savoured the crisp shortbread and caramel with just a hint of salt crystals. It was, as a Scottish person would say, lush. I am on a diet but it’s the holidays so I figured I was allowed a treat.

Korea has great beauty products but the choice was bewildering. I bought a serum and moisturiser (Biodance) as well as lip balm…

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
