We’re at my sister in law’s house for the weekend. My mother in law and I share something in common. We are just sitting quietly. She is happily listening to her children chattering away. I am unable to contribute much in a foreign language, but we can understand each other enough. My mother in law and I can’t speak each other’s languages but we do get along very well. We are fond of each other.

Earlier, in the afternoon, we were sitting outside, after the rain and I spotted two small, bright, green frogs. I picked one up but it hopped off quickly. I put a photo of the little fella online and my friend, a kind Indian gentleman commented. He told me all about the different wildlife that surrounds his home, such as tortoises, peacocks and monkeys. It’s interesting that what’s so exotic to me is common there. I liked learning about a new place and making that connection.

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
