Lots of my students have got the flu lately. One boy, who has asthma, has been hospitalised. He’s one of my favourite students. I decided to get the flu vaccine, as working with young children is a sure way to get ill. Last Winter I was sick almost constantly. I’m hoping to avoid this season’s flu.

Something I need more of is feedback for my writing. It helps to have someone to trust who will give a true opinion. Luckily my daughter is one of the most honest people I know, so I can ask her. Ideally, though, one would be able to seek a few opinions to encourage balance. I’ve thought of joining a group for writing but haven’t done that sort of thing since I did my degree. I did a diploma in Creative Writing as part of my honours and was used to the criticism. I’m debating with myself whether to join a writer’s group or not.

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
