Today I read a piece in The Conversation which stated that a staggering 83%, of the 2,500 creative professionals questioned by Adobe in 2024 across 4 continents, reported using AI to assist them in their work although many were reluctant to disclose that fact. I am shocked and disappointed in a way that the figure is so high so quickly. I have no idea how many of them were authors but I think many writers would be included in the survey.
I am not against AI. I think for many things it will turn out to be beneficial and is already making our lives better in climate science, healthcare etc. However I will not use it in my writing. I want my writing to come from me, even if I struggle with writer’s block and take ages to write anything. It is my creation. My mind on the page. I can see the appeal of AI but I think at the very least one should disclose that AI was used in the process. It may be there is room for both conventionally written books and content produced with the aid of AI but I believe people should be informed about what they are reading.
