Time really does go by so quickly. It was almost two decades ago I was working in a school kitchen as a cooking assistant. The head teacher of the school said I was wasted in the kitchen, although I love to cook, and sometimes dream of having a small restaurant. I ran some after school clubs and he gave me a reference when I applied for my first ESL teaching job here in South Korea.

I really enjoy my job, I adore the children, but the strange thing is, the head teacher featured in a vivid dream I had once years ago. I told him I was going to be a teacher in the dream and he said “Let’s face it Melanie, it’s not about the teaching, it’s about the writing!” I’ve never forgotten that. I think my subconscious was using someone, who’s opinion I respected, to try and get through to me about the importance of writing in my life.

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
