Today it was 36 degrees Celsius outside at lunch time so, rather than walk to Subway, I opted to go downstairs to the heavenly air conditioned cool of Starbucks, where the servers have evocative names like Autumn, Berry, Cookie and Dream. The heat is building here and it’s not good for writing because it makes me lethargic. All I do, after work, is shower and lie on the cool floor. It’s only going to get hotter for the next couple of months. I’ll have to find the energy to write somehow.

I’ve had a temporary student here for 4 weeks, while he was on vacation. He’s a really nice kid. He’s going home to Hawaii tomorrow, so we had a goodbye party for him. I will miss him and so will my students, as they have become friends over the month. There are some children here from Shanghai at the moment too. I’d love to go to Hawaii for a vacation someday. As well as the beaches, I’d like to see the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. My parents have been to Vesuvius, but I’ve never seen a live volcano, only the extinct ones in Scotland such as the rock Edinburgh Castle is built on.

Korea has great beauty products but the choice was bewildering. I bought a serum and moisturiser (Biodance) as well as lip balm…

  • Of Reinventions and Regrets

Well, I’ve calmed down a bit after my hair disaster yesterday, but it’s been replaced by extreme regret. I wish I had never touched my hair! It will take over a year for it to grow out, so 2026 is the year of the black bob. I arrived at school and the comments ranged from…
