Today, after a walk, we visited a nearby café. Their iced cappuccino was lovely and their signature apple pastry was not overly sugary. The ambience was very nice, comfy seating, stylish lighting, chattering patrons, jazz in the background. But the strange thing was, although its summer, they were playing Christmas songs! Nice, jazzy, coffee shop music, but totally the wrong season. I have encountered this before in South Korea. We would keep the Christmas tunes off until October maybe, but not here.

Anyway, we returned home and felt like playing the guitars. So we mucked around on Rocksmith for an hour or so, just playing favorites such as Radiohead and Coldplay. I don’t play as much as I used to but I was pleased to see I can still memorise simple basslines reasonably quickly. I can close my eyes and play Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head. When I first started playing I looked at the fretboard and my fingers all the time, but now I often don’t need to.

My fiance used to play in a hobby band, just for fun. They met up last week for a meal for the first time in ages, while I was watching Michael at the cinema with the native teachers. They decided they’d like to play together again. They were a band on and off for ten…
