It’s report card season again! Oh joy! I’m trying to think of positive things to say about all my students. With most of them it’s easy, but one or two present a challenge. Needless to say, this week there will be no other creative writing done, no chance to write poetry or work on a story. I’m just too busy with the day job of teaching. And no doubt I shall be working on the report cards at home too.

How I dream of being able to escape to a place where I can write and not worry about anything else. I read an article in The Guardian about writer’s retreats and whether they work or not. The writer, Fiona McAuslan, had tried several in a bid to finish her debut novel. There were the solitary retreats, if that’s your thing, or group coaching sessions etc. It all sounded like heaven to me and I would love to try one but getting time off work is not easy and also writer’s retreats are expensive. Maybe someday I can justify it.

I remember watching Life on Earth with my dad in the late 1970’s and David Attenborough is still producing fascinating content that reminds us how precious our world…
