A couple of days ago, we were coming home to Uijeongbu, after a weekend away. I was so overtired, I was grumpy and uncomfortable. Even the car seat of the Hyundai Grandeur seemed too hard. I felt separated from the other occupants of the car by the language barrier. Driving through Seoul, I should have been inspired by the sparkling lights alongside the Han river but I just felt irritated.

I was also a little scared. When the semi autonomous driving assist was on, we were zipping along the motorway but the driver didn’t have his hands on the steering wheel. He was perfectly relaxed and talking to us, but I was a bit disconcerted. Self driving is something we will get used to in future, I guess, and it’s safe under the right conditions. It’s just a bit strange when your driver is watching a drama on his phone or chatting away and the car is in control.
