I saw online that Time Out’s annual city survey has named Seoul, South Korea as the world’s most walkable city. That is not a surprise to me as any time I’ve been in Seoul I’ve found it very pedestrian friendly. Although it is huge, the city has thought about people and not just cars. You can walk almost anywhere. Highlights include the Seoullo 7017 an elevated garden walkway, built out of an old road, and the Cheonggyecheon Stream which is a pleasure to stroll along when it’s hot in the summer.

Excellent public transport compliments the pathways and make it easy to travel in Seoul. One area I’d like to explore more myself is the old city wall. I’ve been to one part of it and the view is great. The wall was built 600 years ago and includes impressive gates. It runs along the ridges of some mountains such as Namsan, and although it was constructed to keep people out, it is now an attraction and one of the things that makes Seoul so special.

  • Of Seoul and Self Driving

A couple of days ago, we were coming home to Uijeongbu, after a weekend away. I was so overtired, I was grumpy and uncomfortable. Even the car seat of the Hyundai Grandeur seemed too hard. I felt separated from the other occupants of the car by the language barrier. Driving through Seoul, I should have…
