My fiance used to play in a hobby band, just for fun. They met up last week for a meal for the first time in ages, while I was watching Michael at the cinema with the native teachers. They decided they’d like to play together again. They were a band on and off for ten years or so. There’s male and female vocalists, a keyboard player, a drummer, the lead guitar and a spot open for a bassist…

So… my fiance very kindly volunteered me seeing as he’s taught me the basics of bass. I’ve been playing for over two but I still feel very much a beginner. I only play at home. There’s also the language barrier. The one thing I have on my side is a good memory for songs and the basslines. I’m terrified though, but trying to summon up some bravery from somewhere. It could be great fun if I can get over my nerves.

  • Of Brexit and Buffoons

I was surprised to learn that today is the 10th anniversary of the Brexit vote when the UK voted to leave Europe! I can’t believe it’s been ten years already. We didn’t formally leave the EU until 2020, but the decision was made a decade ago already. Like many Scots, I am pro Europe and…
