Today we had Retro Day at the school. I didn’t have any clothes from the past but I found a worn baseball cap, from San Francisco, that looked vintage. The kids dressed up. There was a photo zone and fashion parade. We made dalgona candy and ddakji, which people may know of now, due to Squid Game! We got a bag of Korean old style candy too. It was a good day.

The funniest thing for me, however, was that I’m so much older than everyone else there. The children obviously are young, but so are many of the teachers compared to me. They are of a similar age to my daughter. They have no idea what it’s like to have lived in six different decades. I remember the 1980s and 1990s very well, and honestly the 80s were cool times. It was so nice to indulge in a little nostalgia.

  • Of Classes and Compliments

I got a new class yesterday. Just three students, but I really like them. They were so polite and did their work no problem. They were a breath of fresh air. As a teacher, I know students are human and have feelings and will act up sometimes, but it makes a huge difference when you…

There are big changes going on at the academy. The other three foreign teachers are all leaving this weekend! I have enjoyed working with them all so much and am sad to see them go. But, I wish them well in what they do next. The new teachers arrived yesterday and seem very nice. It’s…
